Social Media can be triggering for me

Socials trigger me, and LinkedIn is definitely top high in the category..
There are different reasons why I get triggered - many actually 😂- but one of this is surely stemming from comparison.
The more I scroll and the more I see others “doing” and the more my nervous system enter into the sympathetic state.
This state is the state of the “should” and “must” and the state of comparison. (Rings a bell??? 😅)
So I decided to turn this around and use social platforms as my practice run.
When I spot my thought patterns and I hear a lot of “I should do more because they..” I pause. Usually, this gives me the chance to also listen my body and feel the activation.
The moment I pause, I give myself the opportunity to chose what I am going to do next.
What is next? Well, for me, is either the following:
- I process how I feel and I remind myself what success means to me vs what society wants me to think success is or what success might mean to someone else. Then I regulate.
- I decide to step away from my phone and regulate. So I can stay present and make my way back to the safer state.
This world is going too fast for me sometimes.
But I have learnt that if the world cannot slow down, I have the choice to tap out for a little while and be happy in my own bubble.
And that it’s ok.
